a bit about me

my journey & how I could help you

Hello! Thank you for visiting my site and reading more about what services i can provide.

I’ve been working in Architecture for 18 years and involved in the construction industry in various roles for 25 years. My early interests in design and construction started at home doing small projects with my brother on our family home. This led to an interest in cabinetry, making furniture, and a general interest in design and making things. This early taste of hands on experience peaked my interest in Architecture and helped me decide to attend the University of Minnesota, where i received a Bachelors of Science in Architecture. While in college, I worked in various roles of construction to gain an understanding of how the building industry works and how buildings go together. I then went back to school to get my Masters in Architecture at Arizona State University. I am currently licensed to do architecture in the state of Minnesota.

In the last 18 years, I have worked at a handful of firms, gaining a vast variety of experiences in design, leading huge 100 million dollar senior living projects, a variety of small and medium sized commercial projects, as well as single family residential homes, remodels and additions. All have taught me valuable lessons on design, construction and the practice of architecture as well as connecting me with some really amazing mentors and resources along the way. I’ve had the opportunity to work with experts in accessibility, code & fire safety, building science, acoustics and construction.

Creating and remodeling anything can be a complex endeavor; with homes or commercial buildings there are many authorities with rules on what you can and cannot build, how and where you can build it, and sometimes even what it looks like. That’s all on top of having a home or building that actually meets your needs and wants. That’s where I would love to be of service to you and help turn your vision into reality. Klug Design Studio is an independent company in which you would only be talking and working with me. I would meet with you and get an idea of what you envision and what your budget and priorities are. I would then make a design that meets your needs for the purposes intended, is designed of solid and substantial materials and concept, and provides an aesthetic quality that makes you happy to use and live in the space.
